The four criteria behind every Dallas ranking

The four criteria Dallas Picks uses to rank businesses, how the data is checked and how often rankings are revisited.

Every ranking on Dallas Picks, whether it covers kebab shops or powder coating, applies the same four criteria.

Specialization

Is this the business’s core work? We read its category and what it offers. A body shop that also details cars is a body shop first; a family practice that does a little Botox is not a med spa.

Customer standing

An average rating counts only as much as the crowd behind it. A 4.9 from a dozen customers ranks below a 4.7 from several hundred. We also note what reviewers bring up again and again.

Complete information

A working phone, current hours, a website and photos. The more a business tells you before you call, the higher it scores; listings that look abandoned are dropped.

Area served

Dallas sprawls from Frisco to Lancaster. We record each business’s neighborhood or suburb so you can favor the ones close to you.

Revisiting

Rankings are reviewed again over time: closures come out, newcomers that meet the criteria go in.

After a hailstorm

Spring storms send roofers door to door across North Texas. Texas does not license roofers, so ask for a local address, proof of insurance and references, and let your insurance adjuster inspect before you sign anything. Plumbers, electricians and A/C techs, by contrast, need a state license; look the number up with TDLR or, for plumbers, the State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
